At a glance

For an event, look for a shared camera that guests can join easily, with clear photo limits, reveal settings and download options. A vintage filter alone does not collect everyone's photos into one album.

A disposable camera app can mean two different things: a camera that gives your own photos a film-inspired look, or a shared camera that lets guests contribute to the same event album. If you are planning a wedding, birthday or trip, start by deciding which experience you want.

This guide focuses on the shared event camera. Occur is being built for that experience: an organizer creates an event on iPhone, guests join with an invitation, and their photos come together in one album.

Start with a shared camera or a personal camera

A personal film-style camera is useful when you want to take and edit your own photos. It does not necessarily provide a guest invitation, an event album or a shared reveal. Check for those features rather than assuming that every disposable camera app includes them.

A shared event camera gives a group a common destination for new photos. The important question is how those photos get there: guests may take them inside the event camera, upload existing pictures from their camera roll, or have both options. In Occur, guests take photos with the event camera.

Check what each guest needs to do

Try the invitation on the devices your guests will bring. Find out whether they need a download, a registered account, a display name or only a browser. A QR code is just a link: what matters is the experience after it opens.

Occur separates the two roles. The organizer needs the iPhone app and an account to create and manage an event. Invited guests enter a name and use the App Clip on supported iPhones when Apple opens it, or the browser camera on iPhone and Android. There is no separate Android app for organizers.

Read the limits before choosing a plan

Compare the allowance for guests and photos, what a paid option includes, and whether the price covers one event or a subscription. A photo limit can be part of the disposable-camera experience, but it should be clear before you invite everyone.

For Occur, available event options and prices are shown in the iPhone app before confirmation. This guide does not quote a launch price or promise a particular capacity. Storage is temporary, so check the retention terms and plan to download your photos.

  • Can the organizer see the total price before confirming?
  • Is the photo allowance per guest, per event, or both?
  • Who can view and download the album?
  • How long are the photos available, and how will you keep your own copies?

Choose the look and when photos appear

Camera style and reveal timing are separate choices. You might want an unfiltered record of the party, a vintage look or black and white. You might also want guests to see photos as they arrive, or discover them after the event.

Occur offers Original, Vintage and Black & White styles, while preserving original files. The selected style is applied when photos are viewed or downloaded. The organizer also chooses an instant or delayed reveal and whether guests can view the gallery or only the host can.

Test the full guest journey

Before printing invitations, open a test link, enter a guest name, allow camera access, take a photo and check the album and download behavior. Test both iPhone and Android if you expect a mixed group.

Joining an Occur event requires a connection. After joining, captured photos are saved on the device before upload. Keep the browser or App Clip open to finish pending uploads when connectivity returns. This is something to test at the venue, rather than treating a photo on screen as proof that the upload has finished.
